The first semester will prepare an individual in the foundations of Christianity, the Word, theology, and the Message of the Cross. A large emphasis is placed on practicing God’s Presence and Saturation Bible Study.
REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPLETION
1.1 – Saturation & Practicing God’s Presence
All incoming students must complete the self-guided study on saturation and practicing God’s presence. Students will meet with a professor four times (every three weeks) throughout the semester to discuss, review their work, and ask questions about these two foundational concepts.
1.2 – Classes
We believe that Jesus is speaking through the Word to source and reveal the answer to every subject and issue in our lives. We do not merely want to teach a class on ministry, we want to get into the Word of God and allow Jesus to speak through the Word to source and illuminate what Biblical ministry is. We do not want to teach history, we want to get into Scripture and allow Jesus to reveal through His Word the answer and source of history. Everything comes back to the authority of Scripture.
SPM classes rotate each semester; therefore, if you stay an entire year you will have taken all the course offerings. Whichever semester you begin SPM, you are expected to participate in that semester’s classes. For a description of classes that are taught, please visit course descriptions.
1.3 – Weekend Services
We view our weekend services as not only worship gatherings but also as classes in the Word. Students are expected to participate in the weekly services.
Saturday Evening Service
Sunday Morning Service
Sunday Evening Cross Style Center Service
1.4 – Community & Church Practicum
Must complete 325 hours of community/church ministry (25 hours/week) during the time enrolled in Semester One – recorded in the Practicum Log and approved by the Practicum Director.
1.5 – Book Studies
Several books are required reading throughout the semester in a self-guided manner. After reading the book, students are to fill out and turn in the “book review” form. Click here for the list of books for semester one.
1.6 – Semester One Saturation Project
A final saturation project, to be worked on throughout the semester, is required for the completion of Semester One. This project consists of choosing a book of the Bible to saturate in, a book overview/outline, and commentary from your saturation study. The full details of this project will be explained during orientation.
